Some days, you really aren’t interested in
working out. Your body is tired, and you need the extra sleep in – and it does
happen to the best of us. Other days, or should I say, MOST days, all you need
is a bit of motivation to get you out there. The fun part is, you always end up
feeling brand new right after you get that sweat in!
Here are five simple tips to help you get
up and move!
Tell yourself this: “ I’m in no
competition, I can stop when I want”
Often times, it’s the compulsion to fulfil
certain goals in our fitness that actually bars us from going out there in the
first place. I know this happens to me quite often. I feel that if I don’t run
a minimum of 10km on a Saturday, then I’m useless. And then it makes me lazier
because I have this huge goal I’ve made for myself. My friend Bamai taught me that I’m in no
competition, really. And this helps me on days I’m not motivated to exercise. I just get out there and do what I can.
Remind yourself that it’s not going to last all day!
Really, a 20 minute workout would literally
go by so quickly! And I can guarantee you that you’ll probably do a bit more
when the adrenaline starts pumping!
Remember: exercising makes you more in
control of your eating choices
I have this commonality with quite a few
exercise mates. Exercise days are often the healthiest days. Perhaps because
you don’t want unhealthy foods to meddle with the good you’ve done by working out. There's a psychological aspect to healthy eating, and working out certainly bumps your healthy eating psyche.
Keep yourself accountable. Workout buddy
(can be virtual, too!)
Tell someone that will hound your progress your workout
plans. Stay accountable to them. Let them know your exercise
plans—accountability goes a long way.
A workout buddy is priceless. If you don’t
have a physical one, you can always collaborate with a friend at another
location who will keep you motivated.
And finally…
Get into a competition!
I know. This seems contradictory to point
#1 above, but it actually works. Engaging in a challenge every now and then
keeps you motivated. Sometimes, it’s gotta be matter over mind.
Till next time,
